Quebec Punk by Erik Cimon & Alain Cliche

The documentary “Quebec Punk” by Erik Cimon and Alain Cliche is currently in post production.
The Canadian broadcaster will be Canal D.

Here’s a small synopsis :

“QUEBEC PUNK relates the dawn of punk in Quebec: its years of quiet simmering and its explosion toward new wave. The authors give a voice to the first Quebec punks and, with a lucid eye, cover this Anglo-Saxon cultural movement and its collision with the era’s stream of QuĂ©bĂ©cois nationalism. The events recounted in this film occur between 1977 and 1981.”

SHORT SYNOPSIS - TERRITORIES: A giant in the world of documentary photography, Larry Towell has garnered several top-level honors, including the 2005 Priz Nadar and the first Henri Cartier-Bresson Award. This program follows Towell as he uses his camera to confront foreboding landscapes and shed light on struggling communities—drawing parallels between the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the militarization of the U.S.-Mexico border. Towell also reflects on the creative process, offers insight into the photojournalist’s trade, and describes his experiences as an eyewitness to the 9/11 attack on New York City. His thoughtful commentary accompanies numerous examples of his work.

MIDNIGHT BALLADS

mb marcoWhen stores and offices close and most people go home to sleep, an invisible army of nightshift janitors moves in to clean. Midnight Ballads plunges into the reality of five hard-working Latino immigrants living in Montreal. Mauser is new on the job after having recently escaped political persecution by Mexican police. There is Marco, a flamboyant Colombian cook. He is now on welfare, struggling with chronic illness and a twisted case of sexual discrimination at work. Then there is Elizabeth, a sociologist and daughter of Portuguese immigrants, who became a union recruiter to inform her fellow workers of their rights. Remberto is a joyful percussionist and single parent of three teenage girls. He loves the flexible schedule of the job, which allows him to play in his band and take care of his daughters. Like the others, Sergio also works the night shift, but by day his job is more unearthly. He is an evangelical pastor in a church he co-founded with his wife, and describes himself as a “television station” that communicates God’s message to the marginalized Latino community. By peering into their lives and hearing the impassioned stories of each of these workers, we discover a rarely seen Latino subculture and the people responsible for the dirtiest job in town.

SOUVENIR KIDS

In 2003, nine Americans and three Canadians were arrested in Acapulco during a police crackdown on child prostitution and pornography. Filmmaker Diego Briceño-Orduz traveled to Acapulco to meet with some of the street kids who fell victim to the accused “sex tourists” and follows them during the ensuing two-year trial and ultimately discovers that no verdict will ever redeem the harsh reality endured by these kids. Souvenir Kids takes us to the streets of Acapulco where the souvenirs that are bought and sold are not just postcards and trinkets, but the dignity and self-esteem of teenagers living on the margins of society.
